About

As a Graduate Professor of Human Resources Management and Leadership for the Graduate School of the School of Business and Information Technology at Purdue University Global Dr. Steven Cates teaches Strategic Human Resource Management, Employment and Labor Law, Strategic Rewards, and Strategic Selection and Talent Management, and Leadership Strategies in a changing World. He has worked professionally in a number of Fortune 100 organizations in Human Resource Management at the local and corporate executive levels; He has held Human Resource Management positions with Kroehler Manufacturing Company, Miller Brewing Company, Wilsonart International, and Equity Group. He was the Director of Human Resource Management for Forsyth Technical Community College prior to becoming Assistant Professor and Department Chair for the School of Business for Averett University in Danville, Va.. He received his DBA in Human Resource Management from NOVA Southeastern University and received a second concentration in Marketing from NOVA as well. He has taught courses for Valdosta State University in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior. He created an AAS degree program in Human Resources Management for Rockingham Community College. He taught Human Resources Management and Marketing courses for both undergraduate and MBA students at Averett University. He teaches at the Doctoral level at Liberty University where he serves as chair and reader on doctoral dissertation committees. He has taught at Bethel University in their Masters Programs where he has taught all of the HRM courses to MBA, MS-Criminal Justice and in their Nursing programs. He presently is a Graduate Assistant Professor at the Orton Graduate School of Business at Liberty University He has authored over 180 publications in the fields of Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Leadership. He has also served on dissertation committees as well as serving as Chair of a number of doctoral dissertations. He has also been active in guiding others in their research that led to their successful defense of their doctoral dissertations and guiding research projects that led to successful publications in international journals. Of special interest is his work with his MBA and MSM students at Purdue University Global where he works with them to create and present their research at academic conferences and having that research published. His work with students and faculty at Kaplan University was recognized with the 2015 Faculty Scholar Award. His research interests are focused on employment discrimination, workplace bullying, and leadership for multiple generations, and workplace issues addressing the Millennials and Generation Z employees. Dr. Cates also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor's of Science degree in business and economics from the University of North Carolina.
